Last week, Jess Brown-Fuller MP was delighted to join Bosham Association members Dick Bryant and Peter Sims as they measured the speed of passing vehicles in Bosham exiting The White Swan roundabout travelling towards Emsworth.
The Bosham Association Speed Watch Group’s mission is to educate drivers about the consequences of speeding and anti-social vehicle use. In the past year Dick and Peter have recorded 541 vehicles speeding as they exit the roundabout (speeding is recorded for vehicles traveling at 35 mph or more in a 30 mph zone).

Peter Sims, Joint Chair of The Bosham Association remarked,
“We are concerned about the speed of traffic in the village. We want the roads in the village to be safe, especially for children, the elderly, and all vulnerable road users. We have recently amalgamated the two separate Speed Watch Groups in the village into one Bosham Association Speed Watch Group, and we hope to be out at all five Sussex Police approved and registered locations in the village during 2026. These are two sites on the A259 west and east of The White Swan roundabout, and sites on Delling Lane, Walton Lane, and Taylors Lane.
“We could be more effective if we had a few more volunteers to help us. So, if you are interested in joining us, please e-mail us at bosassocmembership@gmail.com.”
Old Bridge Road resident Dick Bryant commented
“I have lived alongside the A259 Main Road for some 30 years and with all the building of new developments along the A259 corridor the amount of traffic has increased significantly, bringing with it speeding along the Bosham straight and noise pollution. Drivers need to watch their speed as they travel through our village and consider the impact they have on those living near to the roundabout and the consequences of an accident caused by excessive speed.”
Jess Brown-Fuller added,
“Thank you to the Bosham Speed Watch Group for inviting me to see first-hand the challenges they face with excess speeds in the village.
Road safety is a real concern for many of our residents, particularly given the growth in traffic along the A259. Community initiatives like this not only help raise awareness among the drivers but also show how local people working together can make Bosham a safer place for everyone.
I would encourage anyone across the constituency with concerns around road safety to reach out to their parish council or community group and get involved in similar initiatives to monitor speed, which can lead to further interventions such as speed indicator devices”.
