Making Sure Royal Mail Delivers for Residents over Christmas

Jess Brown-Fuller, MP for Chichester, sent a letter to Royal Mail at the end of November 2025 highlighting her concerns with local mail services and delays to deliveries.

The MP for Chichester has been approached by multiple residents, as well as current and former Royal Mail staff, in the run-up to Christmas, who were frustrated with severe delays and lapses in service from the company. Several residents have also informed Jess that they had missed NHS appointments due to their delayed post.

Jess wrote: “I am concerned about reports of short-staffing and under-resourcing at the Delivery Office in Chichester, which is now seeing customers affected by delays to letter and parcel delivery.”

“This is plainly not acceptable, and I urge you to look into the Royal Mail service in Chichester constituency to ensure a timely, effective, and well-resourced mail service for my constituents.”

Early this year, Jess signed a Parliamentary motion highlighting reductions in Royal Mail’s service and expressing her concern about the impact on those who rely on post. In July, Ofcom gave Royal Mail permission to reduce the frequency of delivery of second-class letters and scrap second-class deliveries on Saturdays.

Also, in a Parliamentary motion sponsored by Jess, MPs of all parties highlighted the gratitude that local communities have for their local posties, including “their dedication and hard work in delivering Christmas cards, parcels and presents during the busy festive period” and the “essential role they play in keeping families and communities connected at Christmas”.

In her letter to Royal Mail, Jess passed along her personal thanks for the vital work that postal workers and Royal Mail staff undertake.

Jess wrote:

“Late last year I visited Chichester Delivery Office and witnessed firsthand the hard work and graft that your employees put into delivering for customers. During this visit, which was in the run-up to Christmas, I could see how much pride these workers take in bringing Christmas cheer to their customers and I know how much residents appreciate their local postie.”
