Jess Brown-Fuller MP Raises Royal Mail Delivery Failures in Selsey in Westminster Hall Debate
Jess Brown-Fuller, Member of Parliament for Chichester, has raised Royal Mail’s underperformance in Selsey during a Westminster Hall debate.
In an intervention, Jess explained that she wrote to Royal Mail after reports that ‘almost no mail’ was being delivered to addresses in Selsey, with residents being asked instead to collect their letters from the local sorting office.
Jess said that, in its response to her letter, Royal Mail stated that it ‘prioritise[s] medical letters’ and had put a ‘rotation system’ in place to mitigate the impact. However, Jess highlighted that this was ‘not evidenced on the ground’. Residents are still not receiving important letters and are having to visit the sorting office, which has limited opening hours.
Speaking in the debate, Jess said:
"Royal Mail need to turn their communication with MPs into actual action, so our residents can see the changes that we're asking for".
Following the debate, Jess said:
"The situation facing residents in Selsey is simply unacceptable. Not only are they being expected to collect their letters, but this is being compounded by severely restricted opening hours.
This is particularly unfair on the elderly and more vulnerable in the community, especially given that reports on the ground are still suggesting that even important medical letters are still not getting through to households.
I will continue to push Royal Mail to improve their standards and deliver the service that our local communities deserve."
