Residents of Southbourne raised pressing local issues directly when the MP for Chichester, Jess Brown-Fuller, attended a busy Q&A session held at Southbourne Village Hall on Wednesday 08 April.
The event, organised with support from Southbourne Parish Council, provided an opportunity for parish councillors and residents to question Jess on key challenges facing the community, including housing, infrastructure and road safety.

Concerns were raised about the government’s development plans and their impact on the Chichester area, where land availability is heavily constrained. Jess reiterated her calls for an “infrastructure-first” approach, ensuring essential services and transport links are in place before new homes are occupied.
Road safety was another key concern, especially considering anticipated increases in traffic from new housing developments. While noting that responsibility lies with the County Council, Jess encouraged local councils to explore funding mechanisms such as Community Highways Schemes to secure improvements.
Other topics raised included local government reorganisation and the UK’s relationship with the US, particularly dealing with the volatility of the sitting President.
Speaking after the session, Jess said:
“It was a pleasure to be in Southbourne this morning to take questions from residents and to hear about the issues that matter most to them.''
''Ensuring that my work in Parliament reflects the views of constituents is a key priority to me, and I am committed to being an accessible MP in all areas of the constituency.''
"I would like to thank Southbourne Parish Council and all who attended for supporting this community event and I will continue to run similar events across the constituency."
