Jess Brown-Fuller has met with Mark Randell from the Naturewatch Foundation to discuss two campaigns aimed at improving safeguarding, justice outcomes, and animal welfare.
They discussed the Act to Protect campaign, which seeks to close gaps in the justice system, prevent harm, and protect both people and animals. The campaign highlights the link between animal abuse and wider safeguarding risks, reflecting Liberal Democrat principles of prevention, accountability, and community empowerment.

The Purple Paw Project was also highlighted, promoting the role animals play in human wellbeing and resilience. It shows how protecting animals can also protect people, particularly in cases of domestic abuse, mental health challenges, loneliness, and child development. Purple Paw acts as a safeguarding message, emphasising the central role of pets can play in family life and recovery.
Speaking after the meeting, Jess Brown-Fuller said:
“Protecting animals and protecting people go hand in hand. Campaigns like Act to Protect and the Purple Paw Project show how safeguarding can be strengthened by recognising the vital role animals play in our lives. I thank Naturewatch for their campaigns in this space and all the work they have done to ensure police forces across the Country recognise the link between animal abuse and domestic abuse.”
