Jess Brown-Fuller MP encourages local businesses to respond to the Small Business Strategy inquiry

Jess Brown-Fuller MP has encouraged local businesses across the constituency to respond to the Business and Trade Committee’s Small Business Strategy inquiry.

The inquiry has been launched following the government’s announcement at the Autumn budget in 2024 that it intends to publish a Small Business Strategy to set out its vision on how it will support small businesses, particularly those on our high streets.

The aim of the inquiry is to develop recommendations for the strategy and to set criteria against which the government’s progress can be judged. It also gives business owners an opportunity to shine a light on the most significant challenges they face, and the type of support they need from the government in future.

Jess has underlined the importance of local business taking part in the inquiry, and the urgent need to protect the businesses which lie at the heart of our community:

“No one has a better understanding of the challenges faced on our high streets over the last 15 years than those who have experienced them first hand. Businesses across Chichester have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of these adversities, and it is right that this inquiry gives small businesses in our area the voice on the national stage that they deserve.”

The government must make sure that its growth strategy works not just for larger businesses, but also the small businesses who are the corner stones of our local economy and communities. This is the only way we can ensure our town centres provide thriving community spaces fit for the future. It is essential that the government are properly held accountable for this.”

Chichester stakeholders can complete the online survey here, and can submit additional supporting evidence here.

The deadline for replies is Wednesday 16th July 2025.
