Jess Brown-Fuller MP Demands Urgent Action on Mental Health Failures Affecting Neurodiverse Young People

Jess Brown-Fuller has pressed for urgent action after a young constituent was left without clear mental health support while services disputed responsibility for her care.

Speaking in Parliament, the Chichester MP highlighted systemic issues in mental health provisions, describing the impact that such failings have had on her constituents.

Jess detailed how a local family were left in limbo between Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), wider NHS provision and neurodevelopment pathways as no single service took ownership of a young girl’s healthcare needs.

Jess Brown-Fuller raised the case of a young constituent left without support between CAMHS and neurodevelopment services.

Jess Brown-Fuller challenged the Government on what tangible action is being taken to address the growing mental health crisis among neurodiverse young people, warning that overstretched services are leaving vulnerable families without clear support.

Under-Secretary Zubir Ahmed responded by highlighting £13 million in funding for pilot schemes to enhance staff training for supporting young people with complex needs.

The Liberal Democrats have long campaigned for mental health to receive true parity with physical health, including increased funding for early intervention and better coordination between services.

Jess Brown-Fuller added:

“This is not an isolated case. It is a warning sign. We need a joined-up mental health system that works around the patient, not one where vulnerable young people are passed from pillar to post while their condition worsens. Fragmented pathways where children are passed between departments are not part of the solution.”

Jess Brown-Fuller has pledged to continue pushing for reforms so that no young person in Chichester is left without clear, accountable mental health support.
